Thank you for this post. You've done ...Hello !! Thank you for this post. You've done a good job putting together the Pros and Cons of a vintage camper. One thing that I might stress-out is the fact that almost every point that you made, you will have to tackle them with a new rig for probably higher cost. I've seen so many new rig with leaking problems or even mechanical problems that at least, the style and the robustness of a Travco worth the extra effort. I have a Travco 270 1972 that is in my family since new. I intend to use it to roam North America at some point in the future. Those rig are so awesome that it worth putting effort into them and once they are renovated or renewed, they will last longer than most of the current camper, Airstream included. My wife and I intend to renew every system inboard as we will need working stuff for full timers. The mechanical part is still open for discussion as the combo engine-transmission are pretty easy to maintain once you get that Electronic Fuel Injection and Electronic Ignition. The brakes are my main concern. Parts are harder and harder to find. This is not a cheap project but an exciting one. I have a Jeep for many years and I tow a travel trailer with it. You can be sure that everywhere we go, there always someone to ask us about our rig and his performance. It will be the same with the Travco. P.S. we might tow a Jeep too ;) Martin-HMarvil68https://www.blogger.com/profile/02325218402442103743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8769653795464228204.post-63575201393280079072018-02-11T09:00:15.127-08:002018-02-11T09:00:15.127-08:00Hi - thanks for the article.. My parent's experience in renovating their Travco is similar. Always plan on more money, more time and more problems to fix than expected! Someone must absolutely have skills and be able to do a lot of work themselves. But it can be done, and it can be very rewarding!

Carl, from the Blue Whale Travco!Carlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11942820700615456910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8769653795464228204.post-80348238811586165222016-05-19T20:57:04.959-07:002016-05-19T20:57:04.959-07:00@paul I agree that a Travco is one of the best vin...@paul I agree that a Travco is one of the best vintage RVs. so many others are just wood stick frame. Nessie our 76 Travco ...Awesome information to have. Nessie our 76 Travco is our first motor home and we were not looking for a Travco at the time we purchased her. We were lucky as the Brakes were good and she ran well when we got her. She was partially gutted when we got her and is still a work in progress. A $2000 purchase price and about $7500 in parts and recovering of seats at this point and we are reaching the original budget of 10 k we set for an RV. The good thing is we have done all of our own work except for the exhaust and tires (don't have the tools). The parts add up fast. We have a way to go but we use her for camping on a regular basis while doing the interior work while at the house. If you have some mechanical and renovation skills there is nothing to be afraid of. If you have to pay someone else to do your repairs you might want to really think about it before getting into any Vintage RV. Out of the Vintage RVs the Travco might be the best choice with its solid structure and basic engineering.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11125580249334008955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8769653795464228204.post-67664977067768644982016-05-17T18:47:15.647-07:002016-05-17T18:47:15.647-07:00@joanne. Spent a bit more upfront for engine/new brakes but the interior was more work in both time and money than I originally hoped. And glad you mentioned the little stuff like the sheet metal screws, I'm appalled at how much I've spent on new screws and finishing washers. All the little things add up quicker than you think.

I'd still do it again though, no question.Scotthttps://luxagraf.net/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8769653795464228204.post-67725724349311193482016-05-16T14:56:22.219-07:002016-05-16T14:56:22.219-07:00At least Myrtle ended up being useable after all y...At least Myrtle ended up being useable after all your expense.
